. Supernova!

Supernova!

Lone fizzling in the starry night
Grim brooding on its present state
Ashamed to bear the name White Dwarf
A once-great sun awaits its fate

Ablaze before, its planets trim,
delighting creatures great and small
and cradling them unerringly,
buzzing, thrumming one and all

Then slowly but inexorably
there came the point of no return
No hydrogen, no helium
Just carbon left for it to burn

A Samson with no muscles now
pathetic in humility
Deflated to a white hot lump
and fighting for stability

Then suddenly . . . itfs runaway!
Neutrinos fly, therefs fusion hell
Goodbye to all those creatures now
And even you, you single cell
